What’s the difference between hollow-core boards and extruded boards from other manufacturers?
Currently, there are two types of extruded boards available on the market: one is polystyrene foam plastic, commonly known as solid extruded boards, and the other is thermoplastic polypropylene (PP), commonly known as hollow boards.
Polystyrene extruded foam boards are manufactured through an extrusion process using polystyrene resin and other additives. They feature a continuous, uniform surface and a closed-cell honeycomb structure. These thick honeycomb structures are completely free of voids—making them solid boards. This closed-cell insulation material can withstand varying pressures (150–500 kPa) while maintaining an exceptionally low thermal conductivity coefficient (only 0.028 W/m·K). Moreover, it boasts outstanding long-term thermal insulation and compression resistance, with compressive strengths ranging from 220 to 500 kPa. As a result, it is an excellent insulation material and finds extensive applications in thermal insulation projects.
Polypropylene (PP) hollow board is an environmentally friendly, green material characterized by small, slightly square-shaped holes in its middle section. It is widely used abroad and has been gaining popularity in China for over a decade, gradually replacing some corrugated cardboard packaging materials. Since paper production generates significant environmental pollution, cardboard boxes are becoming increasingly expensive due to growing environmental concerns! Because of its broad range of applications and ease of use, PP hollow board is also known as the "universal board." Hollow boards are primarily used in various industries, including electronics, packaging, machinery, light industry, postal services, food, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, home appliances, advertising, interior decoration, cultural products, optomagnetic technology, bioengineering, healthcare, and many others. They can be employed for advertising backdrops, stationery materials, industrial packaging, product shockproofing, and more. Among the most common applications are turnover boxes, detachable modular boxes, finished-product packaging boxes, and internal dividers for boxes. Hollow boards are typically made from environmentally friendly, non-polluting, recyclable thermoplastic polypropylene (PP), high-density polyethylene (HDPE) resins, and various auxiliary materials, making them a new type of eco-friendly packaging material.
