How can the strength of hollow boards be improved?
Due to their inherent strength and excellent impact resistance, hollow boards can be widely used in many applications. However, the quality and strength of hollow boards are directly related. So, how can we enhance the strength of hollow boards?
High-strength hollow boards exhibit greater durability and superior load-bearing capacity in everyday use, significantly enhancing the quality of these boards and reducing the likelihood of damage during routine applications. The strength of hollow boards is influenced by several factors, which also serve as key areas for hollow-board manufacturers to focus on when improving board strength:
The strength of hollow-film sheets increases with the rise in ethylene content. Meanwhile, the Vicat softening temperature of PP hollow-film sheets is 150°C. Due to their high crystallinity, these materials exhibit excellent surface rigidity and scratch resistance, and they are free from environmental stress cracking. PP can be modified by adding glass fibers, metallic additives, or thermoplastic elastomers. The melt flow rate (MFR) of PP ranges from 1 to 40. PP materials with low MFR have superior impact resistance but lower elongation at break.
Due to the effects of crystallization, hollow board materials typically exhibit a relatively high shrinkage rate—generally ranging from 1.8% to 2.5%. Moreover, the uniformity of the shrinkage direction in hollow boards is significantly better than that of materials such as HDPE. By adding 30% glass additives, the shrinkage rate can be reduced to as low as 0.7%. Both homopolymer and copolymer types of hollow board materials demonstrate excellent strength performance. Additionally, antistatic masterbatches and flame-retardant additives can be incorporated to further enhance the antistatic and flame-retardant properties of hollow boards!
