What are the advantages of hollow-core boards compared to solid-core boards?
The plastic material of hollow-core boards gives them numerous advantages over cardboard, wood boards, aluminum sheets, and glass. In many applications, hollow-core plastic boards can serve as a substitute for materials such as cardboard, wood boards, aluminum sheets, and glass panels. So, what are the advantages of hollow-core boards compared to solid-core boards?
1. Excellent mechanical properties. The special structure of plastic hollow sheets gives them outstanding mechanical performance, including high toughness, impact resistance, high compressive strength, excellent cushioning and shock absorption, high rigidity, and good bendability—properties that corrugated paper and honeycomb cardboard simply cannot achieve.
2. Lightweight and material-efficient: Plastic hollow sheets exhibit excellent mechanical performance. Therefore, to achieve the same effect, using plastic corrugated sheets and boards requires less material, incurs lower costs, and is lighter in weight.
3. Shorten processing time. Excessive wall thickness will prolong molding time; according to calculations, doubling the wall thickness will quadruple the cooling time. For plastic hollow sheets, the approach to enhancing mechanical strength has shifted from increasing wall thickness to adopting thin-wall combinations, thereby improving processing efficiency.
4. It boasts stable chemical properties and is waterproof, moisture-resistant, insect-proof, and corrosion-resistant, offering distinct advantages over corrugated paper, honeycomb paper, and wood boards.
5. The manufacturing process generates minimal pollution and is highly recyclable. Although it is difficult to degrade, when considering the entire lifecycle—from raw materials to manufacturing to use—the overall environmental benefits clearly outweigh the drawbacks.
