Details to Consider Before Demolishing PP Hollow Boards
1. Precautions for removing hollow-core panels
In addition to installing hollow-core slabs, it’s important to note that when removing them, the concrete must have reached the specified strength prior to removal. According to technical guidelines, the removal of hollow-core slabs should be carried out in a rational and standardized manner. During the removal process, it’s crucial to follow the principle of removing the slabs layer by layer from top to bottom. For instance, when removing the first layer of hollow-core slabs, workers should first dismantle the column hoops or through-column bolts, vertical ribs, and special-shaped clips. Then, using a wooden mallet, gently tap the top surface of the hollow-core slab to separate it from the concrete surface of the column. After that, proceed layer by layer to detach the hollow-core slabs from the concrete surface. Throughout the removal process, never use crowbars to forcibly pry the slabs directly from the column corners. All removed hollow-core slabs and their components should be collected and properly stored for future reuse.
When dismantling hollow-core slabs in sections, extra care must be taken to avoid unnecessary safety incidents. When removing the first hollow-core slab, follow the top-down principle: first remove the column hoops, vertical ribs, and the two diagonal special-shaped fasteners. If necessary, add temporary supports. Leave a main bolt at the column opening; then, by tapping the outer side of the hollow-core slab, allow it to loosen automatically and separate from the concrete surface. When lifting and removing the hollow-core slabs, the best approach is to divide each slab into two pieces. After securely hooking them up, you can remove the temporary supports and finally proceed with demolding and lifting. Of course, to ensure efficient organization, the removed hollow-core slabs should be sorted and numbered accordingly.
2. Principles for the Sequence of Dispersed Demolition
To better ensure quality and safety during demolition, a phased demolition approach can be adopted. The first step is to remove the diagonal bracing members. Following the principle of demolishing from top to bottom, proceed next to remove the tie bolts as well as the inner and outer steel ribs and special-shaped clamps. During the demolition process, always pay close attention to whether the hollow-core slabs nearby might break at the internal corners where they meet the formwork. In such cases, construction personnel can use a wooden mallet to gently tap the upper edge of the outer side of the hollow-core slab and then employ a crowbar to loosen both sides of the slab. Once this is done, the hollow-core slab will easily separate from the concrete surface. Next, remove the hollow-core slabs in accordance with the established sequence. Finally, transport the removed slabs to the designated area and carry out proper sorting and cleanup.
