Hollow Board Manufacturer: Applications of Hollow Boards in Construction
Hollow-core slabs are widely used in construction, and they also find application in bridge construction. However, several common issues arise during their installation, which can affect the structural performance and functional usability of bridges. Therefore, we must pay close attention to these issues during construction. Today, the hollow-core slab manufacturer would like to share with you some tips on how to address these problems during construction.
1. Enhance the load-bearing capacity of the board ends.
2. Enhance the bridge’s sound insulation, noise reduction, thermal insulation, and waterproofing performance.
3. Hollow-core slabs are also subjected to pressure from vehicular loads. Obviously, hollow-core slabs with capped ends can withstand greater pressure. However, some construction units—due to a lack of awareness about the importance of proper end-capping, or in an effort to cut corners, or simply to avoid extra hassle—often fail to cap the slab ends before lifting them into place. In some cases, they even wait until after the slabs have been lifted into position before hastily pouring concrete at the ends. All these practices have led to numerous quality problems. An effective solution is to pre-fabricate several sets of molds on-site, shaped like frustums of cones. The smaller diameter of the mold’s base should be 5 cm smaller than the diameter of the hollow-core slab’s circular opening, while the larger diameter should be 2 cm smaller. These molds can then be used to prefabricate concrete blocks specifically designed to fill the slab ends. This method allows for the utilization of leftover concrete produced on the same day, thereby saving concrete material. Moreover, it reduces labor costs compared to conventional methods involving bricklaying and subsequent concrete pouring. Additionally, this approach ensures consistent quality in terms of the depth of the end caps and other related issues.
As applications continue to evolve, hollow-core panel manufacturers are gradually becoming more aware of and adept at addressing issues in the construction industry. Consequently, the use of hollow-core panels in the construction sector will increasingly expand and become more widespread.
