How to Choose High-Quality Plastic Hollow Boards
A high-quality plastic hollow board needs to be evaluated based on its manufacturing process. Specifically, this can be assessed from several aspects, including the slicing and splicing of thin sheets, seam treatment, defect-repair techniques, sanding of defects, bottom-board defects, other surface damages, and contamination. Generally, a visually normal person, viewing from a distance of about 1 to 1.5 meters, should not detect any process-related defects, bottom-board defects, man-made damage, or contamination that would impair the aesthetic appearance—such conditions would classify the board as superior quality. Additionally, it’s important to verify whether the plastic hollow board has obtained the China Environmental Labeling Product Certification.
It is well known that formaldehyde contained in the adhesives used during the processing of hollow-core boards can pose health risks to humans. When purchasing hollow-core boards, be sure to check whether they carry the China Environmental Labeling Product Certification. The China Environmental Labeling Product Certification is a mark that signifies compliance with both quality and environmental standards. Also, pay attention to the thickness of the surface (thin layer) of the plastic hollow-core board. The thicker the surface layer, the better its durability will be. After painting, boards with thicker surface layers will have a stronger solid-wood feel, clearer wood grain patterns, and more vivid, saturated colors. To determine the thickness of the surface layer, examine the edges of the board for signs of sand exposure or glue seepage. Additionally, perform a water test: if the board shows discoloration, such as a bluish tinge or visible substrate through the surface, it usually indicates that the surface layer is relatively thin.
