The compressive strength of plastic hollow boards is influenced by several factors listed below, and this is precisely the direction that hollow-board manufacturers are focusing on to improve their compressive strength:
The compressive strength of plastic hollow boards increases with the rise in butadiene content. Additionally, the Vicat softening temperature of PP hollow boards is 150°C. Due to their relatively large crystal size, these materials exhibit excellent surface flexural rigidity and scratch resistance, and they are free from environmental stress cracking issues. PP can be modified by adding glass fibers, metallic corrosion inhibitors, or thermoplastic elastomers. The melt flow rate (MFR) range for PP typically falls between 1 and 40. PP materials with low MFR have good impact resistance but relatively low tensile strength.
Due to the hazards posed by crystallinity, the shrinkage rate of plastic hollow boards is typically very high under normal conditions—generally ranging from 1.8% to 2.5%. Moreover, the uniformity of the shrinkage rate is significantly better in these materials compared to raw materials such as PE-HD. At this point, adding 30% glass fiber reinforcement can reduce the shrinkage rate to as low as 0.7%. Both homopolymer and copolymer types of plastic hollow board materials exhibit excellent strength characteristics. Additionally, antistatic masterbatches and flame-retardant additives can be incorporated to further enhance the antistatic and flame-retardant properties of plastic hollow boards!
